Maria Ostry

Maria’s business is called “Mighty and Meek” after the large and small horses she enjoys working with. Maria’s clients have commented that they like her “good bedside manner” and the way that she can “make the horses comfortable.” According to her professor at Butler Professional Farrier School, Maria truly is a gifted horseman. She has a calming effect on horses and other animals too. Many times, in the class, she was able to work with and calm down horses that other students couldn’t get around. When asked how she has honed this trait, Maria simply says, “I just want the horses to like me. I like figuring out ways to help them. That helps me.”

“ Maria was the absolute best! We have a pony, a mini donkey and three big donkeys who all needed their hooves trimmed. The pony and mini were pretty uneventful, a little initial orneriness from the mini. The 3 full-size ones were a huge pain and not in the least cooperative (putting it as nicely as possible 😂). I was honestly wondering what we were going to do because I didn’t know how she could possibly get their hooves done, especially on all 3–but she was incredibly patient, gentle and cool-headed and got them all done beautifully!! “ She is an amazing farrier! We are very new to horses and she was so good with our 3; she got them calmer then we ever could. She has a very welcoming personality while making your horse feel very comfortable with her. We had one horse not behaving and caused problems due to our lack of knowledge and set up. She was super calm during the whole episode with our mare and got her back on track while calming her down. I can tell she has a great love for horses and truly understands them. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my horses and I would give her a 10 out of 10 rating if I could! Elizabeth F.
